Dillon Beach is a good base for a quiet beach stay and Tomales Bay outings. Bodega Bay suits visitors who want a harbor town with a wider choice of inns and restaurants. Stinson Beach puts a long sandy beach and a small village closer to San Francisco.

Dillon Beach

For overnight stays, compare the cabins and tiny homes at Dillon Beach Resort, vacation rentals, and camping at Lawson's Landing. The resort has direct beach access and accepts dogs in its lodging. Lawson's is a campground at the mouth of Tomales Bay; confirm current reservations and rules directly.

Sea Esta is our vacation rental for up to four guests. Its two bedrooms and two bathrooms work for a small group that wants a home base. Sea Esta does not accept pets. Check Sea Esta's live availability; rates vary by season.

Bodega Bay

Bodega Bay has a working harbor and a broader hotel choice, including Inn at the Tides and The Lodge at Bodega Bay. Bodega Head is a good whale-watching stop during migration. Choose a room in town if you want harbor dining close by.

Stinson Beach

Stinson Beach has a long beach and village shops. The National Park Service manages part of the beach; check its current access and pet rules before you go. This is the easiest of the three for a beach-focused day from San Francisco; a weekend stay calls for checking the small local lodging supply early.
